During the Second World War Wehrmacht Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) is severely wounded in Tunisia, and was discharged after Nazi Germany. Meanwhile, Major General Henning von Tresckow (Kenneth Branagh) tries to assassinate Adolf Hitler by smuggling a bomb aboard a private aircraft Führer. The bomb, however, not to fly safely and arrives to hide Tresckow their intentions. After learning that the Gestapo arrested Major Hans Oster, who led by General Olbricht (Nighy) to find a replacement. After recruitment von Stauffenberg in the German Resistance, Olbricht Stauffenberg to provide a meeting of secret committee that coordinated the previous attacks on the life of Hitler. Its members include general Ludwig Beck (Stamp), Dr. Carl Goerdeler (McNally), and Erwin von Witzleben (Schofield). The Colonel was surprised to learn that there are no plans for after the assassination of Hitler.
After a bombing raid on Berlin, which lights up with the plan for Operation Valkyrie, which involves the deployment of Army Reserve maintain order in case of national emergency. The conspirators carefully review the plan so they can dismantle the Nazi regime after Hitler killed. Realizing General Fromm only (Wilkinson), head of the Army Reserve may initiateValkyrie, offer a seat on the Wehrmacht's head in a post-hiring Germany Nazi and into the fold. On July 15, 1944, von Stauffenberg attended a strategy meeting in Wolf's Lair with the bomb in his briefcase but is not present at the meeting Himmler, von Stauffenberg was not a green light from the committee until the meeting of leaders is over. During this time, the Reserve Army moves by Olbricht, behind Fromm, to continue. In the absence of measures taken, von Stauffenberg extracts itself and secure the fuel pump, and Reserve Army was ordered to withdraw, believing that the mobilization has been training. Furious, von Stauffenberg left the committee in protest by indecision and incompetence of the blame Goerdeler, who was elected to be Chancellor after the coup. When Goerdeler required to be relieved von Stauffenberg, Beck says that the SS is looking and requests to leave the country immediately.
On July 20, 1944, von Stauffenberg and his aide, Lieutenant Haeften (Parker) back to the Wolf's Lair. For von Stauffenberg dismay, he discovers that the conference is held in a hut was open window, while the conspirators intended to detonate the bomb on the walls of the house do maximum damage. With ongoing Operation Valkyrie, von Stauffenberg and his co-conspirators, the detention of the leaders of the Nazi party and SS officials and start taking control of the district Berlin government, which will allow them to control the entire Reich. The rumors in Berlin that Hitler survived the oven, but von Stauffenberg dismisses as propaganda SS. Meanwhile, Fromm learns Field Marshal Keitel that Hitler is still alive. General refuses to join the conspirators, leading to his arrest. When Hitler came the Army Reserve by phone, the SS officers were released and the conspirators in turn besieged in the Bendlerblock. The headquarters staff fled, but the leaders are arrested. Most are eventually tried and executed, while others commit suicide. Von Stauffenberg was executed by firing squad.
