How do I know if I am listening in 5.1? Or at least get the most out of my speaker system?

I have a Pioneer VSX-516 Bose Acoustimass 6 Series III system as a home theater speakers. The amplifier is capable of processing 7.1, but are Bose 5.1 speakers (five speakers, a subwoofer). I can receive digital signal into an amplifier. The front left and right and center works very well before. I have three problems 1) When I make a THX test (from a DVD menu) my rear right speaker is when the left rear properly. 2) Behind the amplifier I have two different sections that I can put back into the channels (or "Surround Back "or" envelope "). What should I connect the rear speakers? 3) How do I know when I will complete the experience 5.1? Hope u guys me understand. I checked my connections several times and it drives me crazy. HELP! thanks

1) Try to use the Pioneer "TEST TONE" in the setup menu instead, if your hard THX. Accidentally switching LEFT "and" RIGHT "rear speakers happens all the time. Simply return the connections to make right. 2) Make sure you have "said" the pioneer who is running 5 speakers (disable the "SURROUND BACK"). You want to connect your back to "SURROUND" (Left and right) jacks only. 3) Ensure that all speakers are set to "LARGE" and the subwoofer "NO". Bose speakers work opposite of normal speakers and get better sound with the Pioneer setup this way (assuming that all 5 speakers to be crushed by the subwoofer first.) Sure that the screen before the Pioneer really say "Dolby Digital" or "DTS" when playing video. Otherwise, your DVD player Digital Out must be set to "BITSTREAM" (both Dolby and DTS). Finally, the speaker placement is key. Even if you do all the things mentioned above, if you (or speakers) are placed properly throughout your stay, everything will sound awful. Created by writer-producer Gy Waldron and inspired by his own 1975 bootlegging comedy, Moonrunners, Dukes milked seven seasons of material from t…
