Christian Movies For Kids

Children’s books/movies that promote multiculturalism?
I think it’s very important for my son to learn that there are many different types of people out there. We live in a small, predominately white town, and he’s not exposed to too much diversity, except for PBS. We’re moving to the city soon, where things will be a lot different.
His 1st grade class is completely white. Soon, he’ll be in a class with all kinds of different kids from all kinds of different backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures.
He does have some books and movies that have different kids of people on there, but I’d like more! We don’t have cable (his father and I don’t watch TV), but he does watch PBS, which is GREAT for presenting other cultures, ethnicities, races, etc.
So, I’m looking for books, movies, videos, and anything else that are multicultural. I’m really looking for ones that mention religion as well. In this small town, almost everyone is Christian, and I believe he needs to know that there are many religions out there.
Thank you!
There are so many wonderful books to promote diversity. Here are just a few. Go to your local library and ask the children’s librarian for other suggestions. Most libraries have a book called “A to Zoo” that can help you to find picture books on any topic.
Everybody Cooks Rice & Everybody Bakes Bread by Norah Dooley
All the Colors of the Earth by Shelia Hamanaka
Something’s Happening on Calabash Street by Judith Ross Enderle
Our Eight Nights of Hanukkah by Michael J. Rosen

Seven Candles for Kwanzaa by Andrea Davis Pickney

There is also a little series of books called “Religions of the World” including I Am Muslim, I Am Buddhist, I Am Hindu, etc. Your library may have them.
