actors taxes
Can an actor deduct expenses for taxes?

Can someone deduct acting expenses for training classes, headshots, etc. on taxes? Something to note, I have a regular job already, but I also am an actor on the side. I just didn’t know if any classes (regular acting, stage combat, voice over, etc), headshots, clothing for roles, etc. can be deducted. If so, what would I need to tell my tax person if they are unfamiliar with how acting works (in tax deductions)?

You may be able to deduct these expenses if you have earned income from acting. If these expenses are so that you can get into the acting profession, then they are not deductble as a business expense. In that event, they may qualify for the tax credits or educational deduction under other provisions. It all turns on the specifics of your situation.
If you need to give instructions to your preparer, then my guess is that you need a different more experienced preparer.

National Treasure (Widescreen Edition)

National Treasure (Widescreen Edition)

$2.99

Like a Hardy Boys mystery on steroids, National Treasure offers popcorn thrills and enough boyish charm to overcome its rampant silliness. Although it was roundly criticized as a poor man’s rip-off of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Da Vinci Code, it’s entertaining on its own ludicrous terms, and Nicolas Cage proves once again that one actor’s infectious enthusiasm can compensate for a multitude o…

Stranger Than Fiction

Stranger Than Fiction

$3.04

Much was written about Will Ferrell’s first “dramatic role” as Harold Crick, an IRS auditor who begins hearing a voice narrating his life. But Stranger Than Fiction is hardly a drama. However, what Ferrell does–like Jim Carrey before him in The Truman Show–is handle a toned-down character with genuineness and affection: you believe he is this guy. Crick leads a lonely life filled with numbers an…
